Pickit 3.5: Expanding horizons with new high-definition 3D vision cameras

Pickit is thrilled to announce the release of 3.5, featuring a significant expansion of our second-generation high-definition 3D vision camera range. Introducing six new cameras, this update broadens our portfolio and enables Pickit 3D to successfully address an even wider array of applications with enhanced performance and reliability. These new additions cater to diverse needs, from handling small or shiny parts in bins, to dealing with extra large parts and managing multiple Euro pallet (EPAL) size surfaces. With 3.5, we are again pushing the boundaries of what's possible in 3D robot vision automation.

3.5 Release in a nutshell

  • No less than 6 new cameras have been added to our high definition range. Our M-HD2 and L-HD2 bundles now each offer multiple cameras, based on either structured light or laser technology.

  • Our extended and improved camera supports even more applications, thanks to enhanced camera performance:
    • Drastically expanded field of view (FOV)

    • Improved point cloud quality

    • Higher accuracy

What’s new in 3.5?

Up to 3 times bigger Field of View

One of the most notable advancements in Pickit 3.5 is the drastic extension of the field of view (FOV) of our laser triangulation camera lineup. A single scan can now capture a much larger area. This expanded FOV is particularly beneficial for applications involving extra large objects, multiple bins, or broader work areas. The laser triangulation cameras now utilize the entire scanning pyramid (instead of a square box) increasing the effective FOV up to three times compared to previous models. You can find a FOV comparison of the new cameras below.

Example: XL-HD2

  • In 3.5 the FOV of our XL-HD2 now covers 4 pallets (!)

  • Parts can be detected from up to 5 m away from the camera

Superior point clouds

Another key improvement in the 3.5 release is the enhancement of point cloud quality. Both in the range of new structured light and laser triangulation cameras, we deliver higher resolution and cleaner point clouds with fewer missing points. The increased resolution translates to better object recognition, more precise picking and handling, especially improving performance for small parts. Specifically for the structured light additions, technology upgrades allow superior detection of shiny, even transparent parts.

Example: M-HD2

  • 1.2 Mpx resolution

  • Cleaner point cloud

  • Easier detection of small parts

Higher accuracy

Finally, Pickit 3.5 brings higher accuracy for the new cameras. This increased precision ensures more reliable and consistent detection results, reducing errors and improving efficiency.

The combination of cameras with an extended FOV, improved point clouds, and higher accuracy with the easiest-to-use and advanced software platform, makes Pickit 3.5 a powerful tool for automating a wide range of applications.

IMPORTANT NOTE

  • The end-of-support of the 1st generation HD cameras has an impact on your ability to upgrade: as long as you do not intend to upgrade your camera infrastructure to cameras of the HD2 generation, you should not upgrade to version 3.5.

  • We will maintain technical support on version 3.4 for the foreseeable future and bugfix when needed for those customers that have HD cameras of the 1st generation.

  • Pickit 3.5 is also the last version that will support the M-SD and L-SD cameras from the 1st generation. As of the next major release, the support for these cameras is phased out.
